Alberta-based Solvet, a subsidiary of Alberta Veterinary Laboratories Ltd. (AVL), reached another impressive milestone. The organization’s state-of-the-art facility recently completed a successful United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection, authorizing the organization to be an official manufacturer of drugs for the US market and a registered animal food facility for supplements.
Since its beginnings in 2009, Solvet has built an impressive track record, with 10 patented products and more than $12 million spent on research. The organization has remained unwavering in its primary vision to deliver innovation by request and believes that this recent FDA approval sets it up for even further success.
“This inspection approval opens the door for not only Solvet products to enter the US market, but for us to become a premier manufacturer for other global players,” explained Dr. Merle Olson, Solvet co-founder and Director of Research & Development. “This approval, coupled with our proximity to the US, truly gives Solvet a new competitive edge.”
Through this FDA decision, Solvet is now the only animal health company in Western Canada to have this approval and only one of five in Canada. It will mean more global players consider Alberta as a manufacturing destination for their products, ultimately better positioning our province as a key stakeholder in the US agriculture industry. But the impacts aren’t only global; the benefits this gives the provincial landscape are immense.
